RIAA extravaganza!!!

Pirate recordings are the unauthorized duplication of only the sound of legitimate recordings, as opposed to all the packaging, i.e. the original art, label, title, sequencing, combination of titles etc. This includes mixed tapes and compilation CDs featuring one or more artists.

If you have any doubts before you buy a CD, check out these six warning signs.

The packaging has blurry graphics, weak or bad color.
The package or disc has misspelled words.
The price is often way below retail value.
The record label is missing or it's a company you've never heard of.
It has cheaply made insert cards, often without liner notes or multiple folds.
The sound quality is often poor or inconsistent.

Honest retailers (who back up the products they sell) lose because they can't compete with the prices offered by illegal vendors. Less business means fewer jobs, jobs often filled by young adults.

Every generation throws a hero up the pop charts, every generation rebels. Your parents didn't like or understand The Who or Jimi Hendrix; you don't like or understand much of your children's music. This is natural, but what is the answer? What can a parent do, where can a parent turn? Parents can turn to the experts. Parents can turn to each other. One thing is clear; a turn to censorship is a wrong turn.
